Traditional Metal Braces
Looking for affordable braces in Queens NY? Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and arch-wires. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces are made from the same materials as traditional braces. However, they do not require the use of elastics, which may reduce your appointment time. We offer self-ligating braces Queens NY, in traditional metal, ceramic, or clear brackets. These brackets use a specialized clip instead of elastics to help the archwire guide the teeth into place.
Clear (Ceramic) Braces
For those interested in clear braces NY, ceramic braces are perfect for you. Made of a clear material, they are less visible on your teeth than metal braces. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene because they are larger and more brittle. They tend to be used more on the upper front teeth than on the lower teeth.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable acrylic trays that straighten your teeth like braces. Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus, brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. Whether for kids, teens, or adult orthodontics in Queens, the aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. Dr. Tiya Ungphakorn is a certified Invisalign Platinum provider and has a wealth of experience in using clear aligners to give patients their perfect smile.
Lingual Braces
Lingual braces are hidden behind the teeth and are, therefore, “invisible” when you smile. They are 100% customized to match the shape of your teeth; the metal appliances are created uniquely for you. Our lingual braces Queens NY, are a very reasonable option for athletes, models, actors/actresses, musicians who play wind instruments, and adult professionals.
Types of Appliances
Elastics (Rubber Bands)
Wearing elastics (or rubber bands) improves the fit of your upper and lower teeth. Wear rubber bands as instructed, and remember that the rubber bands work far more efficiently if they’re worn as prescribed.
Forsus™
The Forsus Fatigue Resistant Device is an alternative to headgear that promotes growth in adolescents by helping to eliminate excessive overbites, improve the fit of teeth, and possibly prevent the need for jaw surgery.
Headgear
Headgear is used to treat patients whose teeth are in an overbite, with the upper jaw forward of the lower jaw, or an underbite, with the lower jaw forward of the upper jaw. Headgear gently “pulls” on your teeth to restrict further forward growth of your upper teeth and jaw.
MARA® Appliance
The MARAt® appliance reduces overbite by encouraging the lower jaw forward and the upper molars backward. This fixed appliance is used mostly for younger, growing children and is worn for about 12-15 months.
Palatal Expander
The palatal expander “expands” (or widens) your upper jaw by putting gentle pressure on your upper molars each time an adjustment is made. Your orthodontist will instruct you about when and how to adjust your expander. When you achieve the desired expansion, you will wear the appliance for several months to solidify the expansion and prevent regression.
Positioners
Positioners complete the final tooth movements in your orthodontic treatment. With your full cooperation, you should only need to wear the positioner appliance for four to eight weeks.
Retainers
Retainers may be removable or fixed. They hold your teeth in their new, correct positions after your teeth have been straightened. Your orthodontist will instruct you on how to care for your retainer and about the duration of its wear. Wearing your retainer as directed is crucial to preventing the regression of your treatment.
Separators or Spacers
Separators are little rubber doughnuts that may be placed between your teeth to push them apart so that orthodontic bands may be placed during your next appointment. The separators will be removed before we place the bands. Separators do not mix well with sticky foods, toothpicks, or floss.
Why Choose Invisalign at PCO Dental?
Invisalign treatment uses a series of virtually invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that allow you to smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign clear aligners are made with 3D computer imaging technology and have been proven effective. More than 70% of orthodontists in the US and Canada are certified to administer Invisalign treatment.
We are a Platinum Invisalign Provider
As a distinguished Platinum Invisalign Provider, we stand out for our exceptional expertise and experience in delivering Invisalign treatments. This prestigious status is only granted to practices that meet Invisalign’s highest standards of patient care and treatment success, meaning you’re in the hands of proven professionals.
Why would I want it?
Not only are the aligners virtually invisible, but they are also removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also more comfortable than traditional braces, with no metal or wires, which usually means you spend less time in your doctor’s office getting adjustments.
Invisalign treatment also allows you to view your virtual treatment plan when you start, so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete. Also, in some cases, the cost of Invisalign is comparable to that of braces.
How does it work?
You wear each set of clear aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move little by little, week by week, until they have straightened to their final positions.
You’ll visit us about once every six weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages nine to 15 months, and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
